Principal Engineer - Ben Jedrej CPEng RPEQ

Ben was born in Scotland, however he began his career as a road engineer in New Zealand. He worked there for over ten years with a highlight being spending 18 months as Resident Engineer on Waikato stadium in Hamilton - being there from the beginning through to completion.

In 2003 Ben spent three months volunteering at the Nepalese Society for Earthquake Technology. He brought the latest research from the shaky isles of New Zealand and developed a booklet on how to earthquake proof Nepalese homes.

Ben went on to be principle civil designer for Weiber Consulting in Queenstown, where apart from skiing, he worked on jagged edge - a spectacular house perched on a cliff edge with the roof suspended from above so that no internal supports were required - providing the ultimate open plan living space.

In 2006 Ben moved to Australia where he became the lead designer for GHD on the Coffs Harbour Water Reclaimation Plant, in Alliance with Coffs Harbour City Council. The works meet the irrigation needs of the region, while conserving drinking water supplies. Ben enjoyed working in a multi disciplinary team of mechanical, electrical and process engineers and was impressed that the Council had the vision to work in Alliance, pooling the best knowledge and skills collaboratively. It came as no surprise that this innovative project went on to win the Institute of Public Works Engineering Australia (IPWEA) award for recovering, reusing and recycling.

With GHD and later with SMEC Ben went on to complete numerous complex projects, including spending a year on the assets team at Hunter Water responding to failures in the water supply system, conducting condition assessments and scheduling maintenance to prevent failure emergencies. He also worked as Superintendents Representative for the replacement of the main trunk water main into Newcastle.

In 2014 Ben founded JED CIVIL  in the mid north coast of NSW.  JED CIVIL is an Engineering Consultancy working locally and nationally. He undertakes a wide range of civil design works and project management. He has worked on large and small scale industrial and residential subdivisions, developing excellent relationships within Councils from Port Maquarie to Grafton and Armidale.

Ben is a Chartered Professional Civil Engineer and Registered Professional Engineer (RPEQ) in Queensland. He has a diverse skill set and a reputation for delivering quality work with many repeat clients.

Project Manager -     Lizzie Attwood BEng(Civil)

Lizzie Attwood has spent over 20 Years working on construction sites both in Australia and the UK. She was a Project Manager with Lend Lease before becoming Construction Manager at Coffs Harbour Council in 2014. Lizzie has worked on jobs from the Pacific Highway upgrade to marine wharfs in the Pilbara as well as roads, bridges, dams, pipelines, slope stabilization, pumping stations and the 110m high Spinnaker tower in the Portsmouth, UK. Her job involves; safety management, client liaison, organising site works, programming, estimating, purchasing materials, work place relations, design management, writing risk assessments and method statements, hire of subcontractors and commercial management.

"One of my most challenging projects was the removal and replacement of a 450m long lane on the Iron Cove Bridge for the RMS in Sydney. The first three months were spent meticulously planning the job which had a  5 weeks construction period over Christmas in 2003. Firstly we persuaded the RMS to change the design to a precast post tensioned concrete deck, as we knew we wouldn't be able to construct the client's design on time. We then had 49 deck units manufactured in record time and loaded them in a specific sequence on to a 100m long barge. Working with three enormous cranes it took four days to demolish the existing bridge and four weeks to load on the new one, post tension it and add guardrails. We ended up opening a few days early!"
